"Amor omne vincit"

This is well-known sentence of Vergilius and it should be:
"Amor omnia vincit"

already translated here , this is the kind of reccurent translation request we got on

Well, is this translation grammatically wrong?
"omne" being neutral accusative at the singular

Vergilius may have said this using another form, but does it mean this one above is wrong?

Well, grammatically it is correct. But the meaning is a little different.

Amor omnia vincit – Love conquers all (things)
Amor omne vincit – Love conquers every (individual) thing

Well, it is not wrong of course, but could be better. That’s all.. It also depends on Brazilian Portuguese original... What does "tudo" mean. I suppose --> every/all things (not individual thing)... But, I can be wrong of course.

"omnia" is a plural form, while "omne" is a singular one, both can be said I think. "everything" also means "all things" doesn't it?

From my point of view, problem is that "O amor vence tudo" has been submitted many times, requesters definitively skip this page , or if they were more careful they would read §[2], that suggest they perform a search before submitting a text to translation.

Or they don't understand they have to use the "Request a new target-language for this text" button.

I can understand the problem, Francky... Believe me... Some kind of mess was made because of the requesters, who didn't read rules...

Well, I don't know if we can leave it, because in plural "omnia" can be raed "all (things), although it is neutral gender, but in singular should be "omnem rem" (because "res" is feminine) I guess, not "omne"...
So, in singular I will say: Amor omnem rem vincit...

This is little complicated issue, Francky. I don't know if my words sound clear for you...? The plural has some other rights than the singular in this case...

Maybe Efylove could say what she thinks...

I agree with Aneta. "Omnia" = everything; "omne" = a whole thing, one thing considered in its entirety. And here "tudo" is "everything".
So the translation isn't wrong, but could be more accurate.
I think "Amor vincit omnia" is the best one.

Thanks girls!

problem is that we already have a "Amor vincit omnia", and I'll be obliged to ask JP to merge this page with the already existing one.

Could you do that, JP?

Thanks a lot!

I'll be obliged to send you a CC from another post, as when I click on the CC banner server refuses to validate my sending...
