Air Embolism
Iatrogenic causes of venous air embolism include transthoracic needle aspiration and biopsy, barotrauma caused by positive pressure ventilation, hemodialysis, and insertion of subclavian or central venous catheters . Small quantities of air can be found in the central veins in up to 23% of patients during contrast material administration for CT.
