star system

How does the star system work? I never make mistakes in English, I've done most of my translating into English, and I've never had a translation into English rejected, yet I've had several into Greek rejected, but I've got the same number of stars in Greek as I've got in English! How can that be?

The stars are representing the average rating of your translations in each languages.

I still don't understand why I don't have a 10 in English (I'm a native speaker!), if all we're rating is the person's ability in the target language, but thanks jp (ve saÄŸ ol Bonjurkes) for your explanations.

Maybe you got a 7 or 8 on one of your translations. As you know, the rating system is not yet uniformized and each expert has each own scale. With the recent expert guide line I hope to change it.

Thanks. Again, if they're only rating my ability to write in English, I don't see how that could happen, but I think some people are not doing that. Your new guidelines are very good - I hope everybody reads them.

How about the little watermelon slices? What do they mean? I notice I now have two of them.

It's an activity level (regarding translations done). It represnts the ratio between your activity level and the higher activity level.

The activity level is calculated by adding all the points you earned doing translations. It's not the same thing as your number of points because you can have spent some poins to ask for translations.

I'm planing soon to take into account other parameters for this activity level, as some users who didn't visit cucumis for several months are still in the top active users.

I don't understand why the number of stars I have for English (my native language) is going down, while the number of stars I have for Spanish and Greek is going up.

OK I will look at it whe I have time. Iw ill try to see what are all the ratings you got.

Something similar happens to me.
I am an Italian native speaker and I have more stars in English than in Italian, yet I can assure you that I speak Italian very well.
Funny, isn'it?

What is more, I have just noticed that I have full marks for Russian, which is far from being my strong point!

I didn't looked yet, but I have maybe an explanation. when you transalte in languages you don't knwo, you choose very easy transaltion (which is the right thing to do) and thus you get a 10/10.

But I will check if there is a bug. I'll post here the results.

Well my Greek is a puny 1,78% better than my English if you believe the star system
