yeah, this language difficulty thing is VERY relative! But I´m in a lucky position, because not counting tribal etc. languages, Hungarian IS one of the most difficult languages in the world! :P But actually, everybody would say Chinese or Japanese, Korean and such, but I´ve read somewhere, that actually it is Basque!! Wow! And I´ve also read a story that the devil learned Basque in many-many years, but then forgot it in 5 minutes, because he didn´t need it at all... Hm.. actually, Basque politics is another thing, but I find the language itself very interesting and it would be very nice to study it a little. Guilon, in which part of Spain do you live? Maybe you speak a little??

As far as Swedish is concerned, I´ve only heard that it´s quite easy, something like a simpler German, without all those declinations etc. Do you have declinations?? Or what do you think could be difficult in Swedish?

POrtuguese and Spanish - hehe, speaking Spanish, I think it would take me very little to learn POrtuguese! (And this is what I´m planning to do next year... ) However, this is true for all Romance languages, I think, I love to notice similarities between them! Oh, the same for Slavic ones, they are just extra similar, it is really easy to mix them up.

I would be really curious:
1. Which language is the one that you find beautiful??
2. Which was easy for you to learn?
3. Which was difficult to learn?
4. Which one would you like to learn? (Your dream language! )

I agree that german and swedish must be related in some way,I haven´t really study german, except from a couple of months (years ago!), but still I do understand a lot when a german is speaking. About my own language, swedish..I think that there is a few letters that is not used at all in other countries... Å,Ä,Ö,
but Cisa, I am not a expert on languages...can´t
have opinions there i think.
Any way, it´s fun to learn new words.

kidding. I do like Norwegian..but I don´t think it´s beautiful in that sense...more like a language that sounds optimistic and energetic...cute in a way.

1. I think Italian is the most beautiful language I've ever heard. Every little sentence is carefully pronounced like music and open vowels appear throughout.

2. Personally, French was very easy to learn for me, I managed to master it (if ever one can really master a language) in less than a year with all of its complex sounds and so different words from Spanish.

3. English is quite difficult, the more you study it the less you feel you're grasping the whole of its riches.

4. I'd really like to master Latin

And Cisa, I agree with you when you say Hungarian must be one of the most difficult languages in the world. Basque is a tough one too. Being from Madrid I don't have a clue about this language, but I know Basque grammar gives me goosebumps. When heard it's really beautiful but don't mess around into grammar, it's too complex.

About Portuguese, don't feel too confident, they look similar when written but their phonetics are quite different, Spanish' being much simpler. If you ever had a rough time trying to understand oral Spanish, good luck with Portuguese!

PS: "declination" is a refusal whilst "declension" is what you surely meant.

Yeah, I know Portuguese just ´gulps down´ some sounds, etc., but it´s such a nice language that I don´t care! XD Of course every language is different, but I still think Spanish learners have a big discount when starting POrtuguese Oh, please, don´t imagine me calling every language easy, my actual problem is that I don´t care how difficult they are if I like them!

Oh, and I can only agree with you about your 3rd point (English). Right now, I´m studying for the CPE exam and all is going well, but I nearly can´t sleep when I realise how much I STILL don´t know! :S XD

The Brazilians in general don't 'gulp down' the sounds as Portuguese people do. It's very funny when sometimes on TV one think is needful to subtitle or to double an interviewed Portuguese citizen...

Yes, sometimes I think it's totally different... It's hard to understand! If you understand the E. portuguese you certainly can understand the brazilian one. Even better if you go to Bahia. hehe...
