Hello! "chewable">>>"chewing-gum" (got it, Davide?) That's what we use to say about American english speaking people comparated to British people. It is funny, in a way, Thais, because it's usually the opposite, western people (english and French speaking people living at the western side of atlantic ocean) speaking more "with the nose"(maybe there's a term for that...), it is particularly true with French Canadians who speak like they had clothes-pin on their nose. I don't know why, about French Canadians, maybe people spoke this way in France a very long time ago(but as we don't have any recording, it is difficult to prove!)

I had a look at your blog, Thais, and I liked it very much, so that I had a look to the country you're living in (north of Brazil), it is a very beautiful place, I'd like to get there one of these days. Hotels must be expensive like everywhere else, but there must be some more easily affordable way to be lodged (like "pencion" in Spain, which is less expensive than hotels).
So it must be easier for an old folk like me to learn Brasilian-Portuguese than European-Portuguese, as they speak slower in Brazil!

About cell phones, I've got a Motorola myself, a very flat one (candy barr), but I'm not using it a lot, and when I call someone, it is never longer than 15-30 seconds. I don't use sms anymore, and I may soon decrease my "forfait" which is quite expensive (35 euros/month), so that I'm paying for minutes that fade away without me to use them, it is stupid isn't it?
Casper, are you from northern Brazil too?

I'm from Southern Brazil.
It's the cold season here(my avatar is a town called São Joaquim).
At north people speak a little faster. But in São Luis at the state of Maranhão, they have the best grammatical portuguese, my opinion.

Why do you think that about São Luis grammar?

Most of people use the correct forms of the verbs.
The same happens (but not so constantly) to the gaúchos accent.

I had a very good friend from Porto Alegre, it was 32 years ago, he went to France and lived in my house for six months, I'm wondering where he is now, as the last news I got from him were something like 28 or 29 years ago (his name is Ricardo Matus)Is Porto Alegre in the same "province" than you live?

About 'gaúchos' I already heard, I thought that happens in all South. But 'maranhanses', I don't heard yet.

Here (Southeast) is terrible, it's very difficult

Porto Alegre is Rio Grande do Sul.
There's another state in the middle.

I guess, that is the correct use of the segunda pessoa, like TU FAZES..., in Maranhão they use that too.

Sometimes I don't understand Portugal's portuguese too! I think it kind ugly... My opinion.

I think it's very beautiful accent.
You are Vieira, so that's the way your ancestrals used to speak, and the accent with this strong 's' northeastern people [(Brazil)and the whole coast] use is a very clear signal of Portugal influences.
