| Kafetzou,
my rating in English is decreasing. WHY!
I feel embarrased. I would like to have an explanation.
Otherwise, who will deal with the difficult nordic texts that should be translated into English.
I must say that you do not have the appropriate superiority to differ trash from poetry, I know it is rude to say such a thing, but you aren't the one to use your own "feelings" to desavoid me or other persons that translates "idiotic" texts into English.
Please explain and do it in public.

| Dear Kafetzou,
I hope that this could be sorted out.
I have made a lot of translations, and as you say, with very good ratings from you. In fact you are almost the only one who evaluates my translations. But why does my rating decrease? Maybe it is a JP problem but I do hope that it is not any other English expert that do a random rating. In that case I wish to know who he/she is...
Please accept my true apologies.
Friendly

| Kafetzou,
I am deeply sorry that I wrongly accused you for the sudden decreased of my English rating.
I try to chose the more advanced texts (those who no other Swede wish to deal with) and leave the others to other Swedish translators. I have though now found that Chantal decreases my rating no matter how well I translate, she gives me 7 no matter what kind of text I deal with.
I am deeply sorry if I offended you and I promise that that will never happend again.

| Hi, all members can remove their requests while they are not yet translated. You can go to the target language you want to remove, and there is a "Delete" button. For rita, all her tanslations are done. The problem is that they shouldn't hase been accepted (it's about this russian text that nobody understand). I will give her some points to compensate. Bye |

| Hi Kafetzou,
Thanks for that!
Actually, I was wondering if Cucumis had an expert available to confirm texts translated either from or into Japanese (I didn't see a "Japanese expert" in the pictures on the Home page).
I therefore always try to include as much detail as possible (in English or French) in my notes about the translation, to give the people who have to make that kind of judgment call more to go on.
If you think such detail is excessive (I notice it's not very common in others' translations, for example), I can always scale back on the amount!
It's sure nice to be part of this community of people who love language (and languageS -- some people really have a lot of them at their fingertips!) as much as I do.
I look forward to enjoying this site and learning many things (humility, for one! ) for a long time to come as well!
Have a nice evening,
Ian

| Good morning, I live in Lithuania, and I know the Lithuanian language, but such expression :rududdu did not hear. It agree with your stated opinion.

| Yup, I kinda thought it was a little bit of "overkill" there... I guess my Teacher DNA is showing through...
I have read and understood your explanation of what the capacities of an Expert are. Does Cucumis have a Japanese expert, i.e. someone who is able to check texts for which the target language is Japanese, then?
If it's getting too late in Vancouver (man, I miss that city, now all the more after having seen your photos of it on Flickr!), I'm in no rush for an answer...
Have a good night! |

| Oh- BTW: a Really Dumb Question:
I notice the Cucumis system automatically sends me back the translations I myself did, "for evaluation"...
Can I just click on the "I think this translation is wonderful" button, to get them out of my request-for-evaluation box, or is that against the rules?
There's probably the answer to this somewhere in a Forum if I'd just bother to LOOK, but you know us Language People, we're Talky...
Sorry ta bug ya again... |

| Hi Laura,
Thanks for taking the time to answer all my questions! I can see you're a Language Person too!
You know, I wasn't in any kind of rush to be an expert, really; I just was wondering if you had anybody who would be able to check my translations into Japanese, but thanks for even thinking of me!
My other native language is French (si tu préfères, on pourrait toujours s'écrire en français; je t'écris en anglais uniquement parce que j'ai vu sur ta page personnelle que le français était *seulement* ta sixième (?) langue! ). However, as for ever becoming a French Expert, seeing as how Cucumis itself is *based* in France, they probably don't need a Québécois bumpkin coming in with his Texan twang!
I'm just happy to do the occasional translation that comes my way, help out a bit maybe, and meet some friendly people who appreciate the beauty of language and languages as much as I do...
BTW, thanks for that information about the "Members" page. You know, my confession is that I've got an ancient computer (iMac PowerPC) at home running ancient software (System 9), and the Flash Player pictures of the "Some of us" on the Home page *crash* my ancient browser (Netscape 7.02) every time I run into them...
Now that I've told you all my secrets, I have to kill you...
Anyway, I don't suppose anybody is as Caveman as I am anymore, so I didn't think it worth mentioning to jp...
Speaking of jp, I concur with you that my receiving my own translations back "to check for possible slips" is a brilliant rationalization! (Sure doesn't stand in the way of my loving this Cucumis place, for now anyway!) So I'll just go ahead vote for myself: there's a precedent for that in politics anyhow!
Bet this is the longest letter you ever got in your Cucumis inbox!
Have a great day in that beautiful city,
Ian

| Bonjour Kafetzou,
Lorsque l'on donne un avis négatif pour une évaluation on doit en donner la raison, pourquoi lorsque tu rejettes une traduction sans passer par les sondages tu n'indiques pas la raison du refus? Ca permettrait de connaitre nos erreurs et d'éviter de les refaire.
comme ici http://www.cucumis.org/traduction_0_t/voir-traduction_v_82520.html
A bientôt |
