I'm translating "klacht" as "complaint". Not having much experience with children, I'm not sure if this is the right word to describe a baby "complaining" about something. That's what is meant, in any case.

Hi jmf,
this looks like a good translation to me. I have set a poll to see if anyone has any other suggestions.
Two small points / suggestions from me:

Let them be held in the mouth - wouldn't "let the child hold them in the mouth" be more natural?

or that it complaints without reason - I think this is gramatically correct but I think usually you would say "he / she" when referring to a child.

Let me know what you think!

Yes, I agree with both suggestions; although I thought that "it" was an accepted gender-free pronoun when referring to a baby. Perhaps I'm being influenced by German/Dutch, though

That was a very fast reaction!
I just don't hear 'it' when anyone speaks about a child here but again I don't think it is wrong. Let's wait and see what the others say

I would also translate Kind to Child (3rd line).

Hi,

Maybe you could also consider saying "If you notice that the child does not react noticeably to Cinebaby drops or that unexpected sideaffects occur, it is adviseable to seek a doctor's advice"
instead of "If you notice that the child does not react noticeably to Cinebaby drops or that he / she complains without reason, it is adviseable to seek a doctor's advice"
This seems to be more true to the original source.

And I have one more question about this part: "Let the child hold them in the mouth and then swallowed"
Shouldn't it be something like "Let the child keep the drops in the mouth for a moment, and then swallow them."

Let me know what you think..!

-swallow, not swallowed
-if you don't like *complaints* you might consider *symptoms* which is used by doctors and many laymen for any subjective indication for a disease, including those of children.
However, there is a trend away from 'medispeak' in information leaflets, and this trend is particularly strong in homoeopathy, therefore I think that there is nothing against *complaints* here.

@küçüktimsah: the name of the product is "VSM Kind 0-3 Cinebaby" (druppels), which is why I left it in the original. Is it conventional to translate proper nouns?

Hi jmf,

Yes now I see where you're coming from.. I just figured that since you translated 'druppels' you would also translate 'kind'. But you're right, I guess you could leave it the way it is

No, I agree with you, jmf, that the name of the product is best left untranslated.

Thank you for your suggestions, küçüktimsah! I think I would personally stick with jmf's "if he / she complains without reason" but that is just a personal preference because it stays closer to the literal meaning of the Dutch text in my opinion.

I do like your second suggestion and think it is clearer than what we have now, although I think both are correct. Jmf, let me know what you prefer and I'll edit

@Lein: I'm happy either way. (I take a rather prosaic view on translations, I'm afraid.)
