Come Magalenha firecracker, bring the wood for the stove, come to set a trap. Today is a sunny day, joy for the fool is enjoying the summer. The lizardeezard, the little black girl's lizard, I'm singing this popular song, for you to remember the time you lived there in the hinterland, with a daughter in your belly and another one to bring up. Oariá, raiô, obá, never mind, get out of my way, I want to go past. The samba is so lively therefore I want to dance. This samba which is a mix of maracatu, it's a samba of an old black, a samba of the black you. Such a nice samba you will not want.
| Uwagi na temat tłumaczenia | Very difficult text to be translated keeping its meaning since it's the lyrics of a popular song from Bahia, a region in Brazil which uses a very regional vocabulary. Some terms have to be explained.
calangulango = funny way to refer to a lizard (calango) by repeating the last syllables, that's why the best way I found to reproduce the effect is as: "lizardeezard"
mudinha (modinha) = name for a style of popular songs considered as the very first Brazilian compositions dating back to 1770.
Oariá, raiô, obá, = those words can't be translated. They had their origin in slavery
maracatu = musical style from the north of the country
old black = character of "candomblê" an African religion widespread by the slaves and followed by most of the northeastern population.

Dadas as caracterÃsticas do original em causa, coloquei a minha avaliação positiva com o firme sentimento de ser incompetente para o fazer. Mas, se o não fizesse, prejudicava o tradutor, o que seria uma enormidade, em face da extraordinária obra de arte que configura aquele trabalho! Assim, pese embora desconhecer os procedimentos tidos como normais, mas acreditando firmemente que esta minha opinião será compartilhada, peço o favor de que seja endereçada ao autor, por quem de direito, uma menção honrosa pelo elevado gabarito da tradução efectuada.
Os meus parabéns pessoais, extensivos à organização em geral já que, sem esta, não eram visÃveis os méritos dos que a constroem.
