Darrer missatge | | | | | 6 Abril 2008 08:32 | | elmotaNombre de missatges: 744 | i think this translation is wrong, there are two words to describe relief in english, only appear in arabic, and the arabic structure is different CC: NADJET20 | | | 6 Abril 2008 14:52 | | | I don't agree with you Amal. I think the Arabic form is the best translation of that meaning. You could be mistaken in that you judge on converting from Arabic back into English, while you should think of the opposite direction.
Indeed, the Arabic structure is different, however it doesn't affect the correctness of the original meaning. | | | 6 Abril 2008 16:57 | | elmotaNombre de missatges: 744 | the word gentle does not exist in the arabic version, we have to stick to the original for the sake of honesty, sometimes the requested does not understand arabic and just wants the arabic script for some reason, you used two words to translate relief:
عناية Ùˆ راØØ©
it should be something like:
عناية لطيÙØ© Ùˆ مديدة لعينيك
your statement (working backwords) mean:
prolonged relief while taking care of your eyes
can you see the difference now? CC: NADJET20 | | | 6 Abril 2008 20:00 | | | The reason I've said that I think the Arabic form is the best translation of that meaning is because I cannot think of another BETTER translation, and your suggestions are just not. Imagine using such statements in an advertisement or some prescription and think what would be more suitable? besides, we don't use the terms
عناية لطيÙØ© مديدة
in daily language like this. These three words do not get combined together normally.
I ment
عناية
to be for Gentle, not relief. I think it suits well (I hadn't so many choices).
Last thing is that
مع
wouldn't be better translated into "while". Don't try translating back, is there any better 'forward' translation?
| | | 7 Abril 2008 10:57 | | elmotaNombre de missatges: 744 | ya 3azizi b trans, how did you know this is going to be used in an Ad? i assure you if i was asked to give an equivalent for an Ad i wouldnt come to Cucumis, because you need a marketing guy to get u the best possible equivalent relative to the language in use, not the original language, but here, we just translate, how do you know if the guy does not want to simply learn how to use different words? how do you know somebody tomorrow is not gonna walk in cucumis trying to learn few words and match few statements, i used to do that when i was learning italian and hebrew, and yes it could get very frustrating if the original and the translation are not an exact match, until the requester openly expresses that he or she wants a similar "marketing" term - which i think is a bit lazy on their part, because they ought to be doing their own homework- i cant say but your translation is way off. away from cucumis, i totally understand your point, i would have done it too, and i sometimes do it here but not on purpose
i still havent changed the translation, awaiting your consent | | | 7 Abril 2008 20:46 | | | I can't totally agree with your view on the purpose of translating, I respect the object of this site though. I find our disagreement interesting and good thing.
For the translation, I don't see another acceptable alternative to mine.
You should set your preference, and that may require removing my name off this translation.
I don't mind discussing other suggestions on mine if you want.
Thanks alot elmota. |
