The Mafia underwent a revival in the late 1940s, but in the 1980s and 1990s, a series of "gang
wars", which were mutually destructive, led to many prominent Mafia members being murdered.
Since the 1990s, by largely abandoning their traditional "code of honour" - which, for example, did not tolerate common crime or violence against women and children - the Mafia has begun to lose the acceptance of the public.
