She was an American citizen, and she moved to Detroit because of the Montgomery Bus Boycott. She had several jobs: dressmaker, chambermaid, and nurse's aide; but from 1955 onwards she fought for civic rights. Her life came to an end on October 24th, 2005, in Detroit, Michigan.
