"Mai Kanai" must be the girl's full name: Mai is the first name, and Kanai is the last name.

So Kanai doesn't mean "(one's own) wife"? I found it here: http://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/%E5%AE%B6%E5%86%85

"kanai" is used to self-humiliate slightly his own wife in the conversation with a third party. Never to use for second persons.
