Lasta Afiŝo | | | | | 15 Decembro 2008 18:08 | | | Good try!
"Haluan or you could use "Tahdon", also quite often we say "haluaisin, tahtoisin" (both possible).
Same in the second phrase, where "pitäisin" is not possible, use "haluaisin" or "tahtoisin"
The verb "haluta" is more 'friendly' and "tahtoa" is stronger. I suggest "tahtoisin" for the first phrase and "haluaisin" for the second, what do you think?
Also in the second phrase the object must take another form. Not "kuollut" > correct is "kuolleena". Another possibility is to say "Haluaisin nähdä sinun kuolevan" using verb structure. It means to see you dying perhaps watching it happen. The phrase you made with "kuolleena" means more like to see you after you have died, as a corpse. | | | 15 Decembro 2008 18:16 | | FreyaNombro da afiŝoj: 1910 | OK, so I will make the changes. Thank you very much.
Though, the second phrase should be with "kuolleena" because the speaker wants to see that person dead, already dead...yes, as a corpse. In English it would be "I would like to see you dead." | | | 15 Decembro 2008 19:02 | | | Better now. Did you have earlier in the first: Tahtoisin sinun kuolevan which might be better in the sense "more Finnish" but the one there now is quite correct also. | | | 15 Decembro 2008 19:07 | | FreyaNombro da afiŝoj: 1910 | I could put the other version below the text. | | | 15 Decembro 2008 19:38 | | | Oh sorry, I did not mean that. Those two first phrases are so close together in meaning that we both get confused
With your explanation the phrase nr 2 is quite right as it is and doesn't need alternatives: Haluaisin nähdä sinut kuolleena.
My last question was about the phrase nr 1. "Tahtoisin, että sinä kuolet" is the same as "Tahtoisin sinun kuolevan". Of these two possibilities for the first phrase, again, the one you have there is stronger and quite ok (tahtoisin, että sinä kuolet). It is closer to the form in the original and as both are ok, I will let it be and change the remark accordingly.
(I just wanted to point out that the two possiblities are similar in meaning and that we perhaps more often use the one without "että".) | | | 15 Decembro 2008 19:43 | | FreyaNombro da afiŝoj: 1910 | Oh, I understand now. Thank you again. |
