Lingua di destinazione: Inglese

The hero of the play, 'the traveller' has been hearing distant voices lately. This voice keeps repeating the same question:"Have you looked at the stars?" The traveller however, is unable to see them. So he boards a horse and carriage going to the observatory in able to look at the stars with a telescope. The Director of the observatory is a man philosophically inclined. He tells the traveller it is forbidden to enter the observatory in the middle of the night.
An intense conversation develops between the traveller, the director and the driver of the carriage which occasionally turns into an argument.

"This voice is..repeats.."??
"..boards a horse and carriage":"board" can be used for boarding a plane, ship and so on for vehicle with board. In this case, "ride on a carriage" is more suited.

Hi kfeto Hi David

Some suggestions to get the text into correct English.

Are you sure that it is "is hearing" it would seem more correct if you put "has been hearing".

I agree with cesur-civciv you need to find an alternative for "boarding" as it doesnt fit here.

You will need to choose between "This voice repeats" or "This voice keeps repeating" as your phrase is grammatically incorrect.

You might put "the" before "director" in the last line, which needs a little puntuation to make it read easier. What about:

"An intense conversation develops, between the traveller, the director and the driver of the carriage, which occasionally turns into an argument.

Hope these suggestions help

Normally it has been my experience that kfeto almost never makes a mistake, so I give him the benefit of a doubt here unless you, as administrator, disagree and then I certainly bow to your superior wisdom.

hello,
i apologise to all, especially dramati.
I did not spend the amount i usely do on a translation so errors slipped in.
I'm sorry.
The 'voice' sentence was indeed incorrect as i changed mid-translation on how to phrase it.
I put in 'the'.
First sentence is in present 'is hearing' in the source.
'boarding' i used deliberatly because the driver of it is introduced abrubtly later on so i felt boarding made clear immediately the traveller isn't driving himself .
Boarding is used for stepping unto any vehicle used as a somewhat regular transportion service which included in those days carriages.
Any more appriopriate suggestion i can change it into are welcome though.

David,

This has got nothing to do with giving the benefit of the doubt or not to the translator, I have no idea whatsoever whether kfeto's version is correct or not I don't speak any Turkish except for "merhaba".

The opinion I am giving here is one of an English expert, about English grammar, vocabulary, spelling or syntax, so you should have noticed them yourself and informed kfeto or dealt with them yourself, then I wouldn't have needed to do so.

Kfeto, if "is hearing" is correct, then it's the word "lately" that doesn't fit, which is why I suggested "has been hearing".

For "boarding" I'm thinking about it and if I come up with something before your version is validate, I'll let you all know.
