I am trying to come up with creative pedigree names for desert hunting dogs (sighthounds) or arabian/morroccan/berber origin, and they must be pronouncable for ordinary westerners. The dogs' colours are sand, red sand, cream, black and brindle (tiger stripes on sand background"). They are extremely slender and elegant, and only kings and tribal chieftains were originally allowed to own them. They were used for hunting jackals, desert fox, gazelles, desert hares, etc in the desert and in the mountains. Key words are "noble", "hunter", "desert", "brave", "fast", "beautiful", "elegant", and words that are poetically descriptive of their physical appearance.
I have given some words and phrases to start with, but you are free to add anything else that you think might work.
The language I wish for is arabic (classic or North-African). |

26 ספטמבר 2008 14:24 | | | About the [9], ("OTHER LANGUAGES When requesting a translation into a language which is not listed, please specify in the remark field into WHICH language you want to have your text translated"  , you'll notice "language" is at singular, it means that only one "other language" can be requested at a time. That is for a valid request anyway.
Sorry, we cannot do any exception to our rules, that were set on in order to let users understand that we are a site for translation of texts, and not an online dictionary.

The lack of suitable arabic pedigree names for arabian dogs results in many horribly wrong attempts at "arabicized" names. No dictionary has been able to help us, because a dictionary can't translate phrases.
As for the language(s) I wish for, I sincerely apologize for asking for both arabic and berber/tamazigh (the latter being one and the same). | | |
26 ספטמבר 2008 18:05 | | |  Thanks for having answered, so I think I'll reconsider your request, as you told it was hard, if not impossible to find meaning from these isolated words (a sentence is including at least a subject and a verb, or a verb and one object) in dictionaries.
So you'll have to request this text twice :
-1- Into Arabic
-2- Into Berber/Tamazigh
And this time your request will be accepted.

26 ספטמבר 2008 21:02 | | | Thank you very much! I think I'll forgo the request for Berber/Tamazigh, because frankly, that language is practically impossible to pronounce correctly. It's very fascinating, though, and I'd love to one day find a good online Tamazigh dictionary. :-) |
