Hello,

Funny thing with this text: I thought it was translated already and I have seen the translation being discussed, yet there it is the translation rejected and here it is the text put again for translation - they both co-exist (I'm not even sure where I should write this message: on the first poll, or here...). I'm puzzled because someone else can easily translate this text by using the discussion on the rejected translation, especially because a good translation was provided by one of the commentors.
Can't these situations be avoided?

Hi Tzicu!
You mean minuet's translation? I also think it is right. Lilian rejected merdogan's translation, so it is not strange to see the translation requested again, that's what happens when the expert chosed the rejection option, probably because the translation was too faulty.

I've got nothing against merdogan, who's a nice and helpful member of cucumis, whom I respect, but if the translation requires too many edits, it is up to the expert to reject it.

Hello Francky,

I agree with you; my point was that minuet's translation was available while the request was sent again for translation; that way, anyone (interested) could copy-paste the translation and use it for themselves and take the credit for it.

All the best,

Ok, I see (I didn't yesterday, I even mixed up your avatar with Pia's, as far as I can remember, and Lilan probably edited my post afterwards)

This is kind of complicated to state what is to be done by experts and admins here. If minuet does not translate "officialy" (in the translation frame), yes, someone could use her translation.

This is something the expert has to take care about, as if someone who doesn't know the target-language (for instance) does what you say, this would be considered as if s/he used a copy-paste from an automatic translation tool, with a difference though, that is about the quality of the translation (originally done by a native speaker of the target-language, expert moreover in this language), then consequently there would be no delay in the translation process, as it wouldn't be rejected by the expert and reset to translation for the third time.

Despite the fact it does not harm the translation process as surely as if someone used an ATT, it still is something that is fair neither with the one who really provided the translation, nor with (even, as I said above, if there is no harm with delaying the translation process).

If I were the expert in English, I would give no rating to the one who used a copy-paste, but we can't erase the proposition of translation provided here by minuet, as this would maybe delay the translation process as well.

But if the points from the translation still are credited to someone who does not know the target language, this is to be considered something unfair from the one who did that, even if the harm is less serious than using an ATT, this is to be considered a way of cheating us as well, and then a warning should be addressed the one who proceeded this way.

So,
- The expert gives the smart one no rating
- S/he sends her/him a warning in public or private message to the "translator" 's inbox

So if it is not possible to avoid this kind of cheating, we still don't want to delay the translation process, especially if a text is submitted a second time after one or several translations from it was/were rejected.

Note that if the one who posts the translation already has a good rating in the target language because s/he is good at it, of course the translation would be rated (average) and s/he won't have any warning.

Your question was useful though, and you were right to ask it. This kind of situation you described can't be avoided but we still can do something about afterwards, the point being not to delay the translation process too much and to be fair with everybody.

Thank you, Francky, for taking the time to explain. I understand what you mean.
I guess this is another matter quite difficult to control and for Administrators/Experts to oversee. I suppose that such situation (where only certain people should read a certain message) would require some feature that would be 'private'. But, again, that might be too much and maybe 'burden' the site.
Honestly, when I have spare time and there isn't much to do on cucumis workwise, I 'travel' throughout cucumis and meet different situation and thus I'm approaching the members who might be able to explain those situations to me for a better understanding.
Again, I appreciate your taking the time to write.

All the best,
