That window-dummy looks so real! Way to go, Dude... | | window-dummy has the meaning of a "barbie" here, a "fake" girl with too much make-up & stuff. |

Way to go, dude...
This is actually good slang but in order to make it work some punctuation is needed in English. I would sugges.
Looks like...real...what a window-dummy. Way to go, Dude... | | | 19 Януари 2008 19:25 | | | Yes, well..
I think it is meant as slang, no? | | | 19 Януари 2008 19:53 | | | This is a tough one actually, I have no idea why somebody put a stress on "net".
Could it be possible that the intention of this sentence was to insult somebody's girlfriend?
I.e. the girlfriend uses too much make-up and looks cheap, like a barbie. I believe "etalagepop" is how we'd say "barbie".
I bet that's not the case though... Maybe some guy thought a window-dummy was a real person? In that case I'd go for "That window-dummy looked so real..." I didn't like the "what a window-dummy" part, it sounded very strange. That's why I voted against at first, maybe I should change that.
So hard to translate those phrases without a decent context!
What do you guys think is meant here? | | | 19 Януари 2008 20:25 | | | I don't know, if she really means "barbie" then I don't think she would use the word "etalagepop"
I want to know the context too, but I don't think "barbie" or as we call it "schminkdoos" is meant here. | | | 19 Януари 2008 20:28 | | | I've read her former translations requests and they are all from dutch into brazilian portuguese.
I think all her requests in dutch are from the same person.. (since she uses the name "Jochem" quite a lot.)
Maybe she met some guy on the internet or did she read a text, and she wants to know the translation.
If all her requests are from the same person, then I think Urunghai could be right and that "etalagepop" has the meaning of "schminkdoos"

Thanks,

Way to go, dude..."
That translation is the most neutral - and therefore the best - option in my opinion.
If you really want to reflect Tristans' "schminkdoos" (hah, ja dat is het woord dat ik zocht! ), I'd go for
"(She's) just a real window-dummy!
Way to go, dude..." |
