Source language: Italian

mi sa che hanno capito
Remarks about the translation
Original text: "Mi da che hanno capito".
But it doesn't make much sense and it's grammatically not correct ("he gives me that they understood"), so we edited to the nearest solution.

.How would you translate this into English, Xini?
(maybe I validated the French version a little bit too fast...).

I think it's an error:

mi sa che hanno capito

(I bet (I guess) that they understood)

otherwise it makes no sense to me.

(he) gives me what they understood
would be
Mi dà ciò che hanno capito (or quello che hanno capito)

Ok, Xini, but isnt' t the translation appropriate for that precise text written there?

No, because "that" is missing (quello o rciò).
As it is, the Italian sentence is not correct.

Please do not check the Administrator button down here when you post simple messages, unless yoiu really want an admin to check the page (Languages are not appropriate; translation wrong already accepted; good translation rejected; bad words ecc.)

Anyway, you can omit the parentheses in the main transaltion field, since the subject "he" is mandatory here.

It would be a mistake, as Xini says, i didn't know surely. It must be:

" mi sa che hanno capito

(I bet (I guess) that they understood) "

So that sentence is already clear what it means in the conversation wherein the question showed up.

Sorry for the mistake. Thank you so much!

So the similarly-incorrect English sentence is

he gives me which they understood

i.e. take out the "that" from the correct sentence:
he gives me that which they understood!

In French,
Il me donne qu'ils ont compris
without a ce?

Anyway, what do we do about this now?

The word "that" (ciò, quello) is missing in Italian. This makes the original sentence wrong.

A literal translation would be He gives me that they understood

No you mean (as I wrote above)
He gives me which they understood
che = which
in this case, if
cio che = that which?

Yes, maybe, if it's correct in english.

But

We shouldn't deal with this scenario, since the italian text and the supposed-to-be-right italian text are different

No no, the phrase I wrote is actually mistaken in English too! I just thought we could translate the phrase exactly the same way it was written, i.e. mistakenly!

I'm sorry, Xini, actually I was half-joking! Anyway, what shall we do about this mistaken text?

Just tell me, we could either edit the Italian text in order to let it be correct, or remove it, in which case I'd have to reject the translation into French...

Francky, I think we should keep the translation I made, since it is the most appropriate for the mistaken text given here, but also let the one who asked for it know that the Italian version is miss-spelt.

I like the idea of correcting the Italian text, and then allowing Maddie to edit her text, to make it perfect too!
I think we want as many excellent translations as possible here at !
And maybe you could fix the French translation after that, too?

Could you do that for us, Franck?
