Title
La Passion. Elle se cache au plus profond de...
Text
Submitted by iepurica
Source language: French

La Passion.
Elle se cache au plus profond de nous-mêmes
Elle fait semblant de dormir
Elle attend son heure
Et d'un seul coup, lorsqu'on ne s'y attend plus
Elle se réveille
Elle ouvre ses mâchoires
Et elle ne nous lache plus.
La passion nous entraîne, nous pousse
Et finit par nous imposer sa loi
Et nous lui obéissons.
Que pouvons-nous faire d'autre ?

Title
Passion It hides deep inside of us
Translation
English

Translated by kafetzou
Target language: English

Passion
It hides deep inside of us
It pretends to sleep
It waits its hour
And all of a sudden, when we don't expect it anymore
It wakes up
It opens its jaws
And it won't let go of us.
Passion drags us, pushes us
And ends by imposing its law on us
And we obey.
What else can we do?

I'm not so sure about "when we least expect it".
I think that "lorsqu'on ne s'y attend plus" means when one doesn't expect it any more, or he has given up expecting it...

The original English text (because it was actually an English text at origins) said something like that "and though unwanted, unbidden, it will stir" (there were the line "Et d'un seul coup, lorsqu'on ne s'y attend plus " is now). Maybe this helps...

I changed it to "when we don't expect it anymore" - but if the original was in English, why don't we post a link to it? Any idea who the author was?

P.S. "unbidden" means "when we have not asked for it", but that's not what the French that I was translating says.

I found this all over the internet:

"Passion, it lies in all of us, sleeping... waiting... and though unwanted... unbidden... it will stir... open its jaws and howl. It speaks to us... guides us... passion rules us all, and we obey. What other choice do we have?"

Apparently it's from the TV show "Buffy the Vampire Slayer".

It seems to be a poetic translation.
Buffy the Vampire Slayer ? haha, so poetic....

Indeed, it was from Buffy. I love the words, they really say something and they are actually, I don't know, haunting. Or just true. It sounded so nice in French...
I believe that was the right meaning, kafezou, thank you.
P.S. It was actually not a bad movie and the episode "Passion" (where the quote lies) was one of the nicest... Anyway, that was my taste.

Sorry, Iepurica, I like the words as well , but I don't know the movie at all, so it was just the title that surprised me . I mean, neither "Buffy" nor "vampire" suggest to me something like PASSION .
I didn't want to hurt your feelings, though...
