The most ancient and without any doubt the most important amongst the large urban hospitals is the hospital of Saint John the Baptist in the Town of Turin. Such hospital centres often changed buildings for space and hygiene reasons. The Via Giolitti centre was one of the city's most important centres. As a matter of fact, in 1978 the Piedmont Region founded the Regional Museum of Natural Science and housed the prestigious centre in a part of the building of the former Hospital of Saint John the Baptist.
