In response to a letter requiring some information in which you are interested about your ancestors, we are sending the following explanations.
The General Direction of the State Archives does not fulfill the function of collecting the state's historical records. We wish to inform you that the state archives collect archival materials in accordance with the territoriality principle. It means that the archival search of appropriate acts ought to be conducted in the archives of the cities which are the closest territorially to the place of their creation.
In conformity with our research in the area of the Republic of Poland in the archives' collection there are preserved only the fragmentary registers of the civil registry of Horuck i.e. : birth certificates, marriage licenses and death certificates of Greek Catholics from 1785 to 1811, 1821 - 1835, 1838-1841 are preserved by the State Archives in Przemyśl (Lewela 4, 37 - 700 Przemyśl). Birth certificates, marriage licenses and death certificates of Greek Catholics from 1928 to 1938 are preserved at the Central Archives of Historical Records of Lvov District (Dluga 7 (00 - 263 Warsaw).
On the account of the fact that there is only a small part of civil registries of Horuck in the Polish State Archives, we suggest that you also contact the State Archives of Lvov District.
If your ancestors were born or lived in the town of Samokleski (Jaslo province) in order to receive the information you are interested in, you should contact the State Archives of Rzeszów, the Skołoszyn Department (38 - 242, Skołoszyn 249).
