By the way, Casper, I've been recently flirting a little bit with Swedish, and I find that it sounds comical (no offence anyone, please) so, I imagine it used by hobbits, Nevertheless, I think I am falling in love with its sounds.

Finnish is like a Swede trying to speak Arabic.

I've actually never heard someone from Finland speaking, but it looks very unique, the endless words with hardly any vocals.

Btw, swedish sounds very "throaty" to me. But that's not bad, perhaps it sounds a little funny first, but I really like the language!

I don't think Finnish is as "consonantal" as Germanic and Slavic languages (all of them without exception) or as European Portuguese, for that matter (this one sounds like a Romanic Russian).

About Swedish, when they utter an "i" from their throat or a closed "a", it sounds to me as if they were tryng to pull my leg.

What is it that you find funny about Spanish, Casper?

Smy,
Turkish sounds beautiful to me! Especially, when they sing in it. Shüküdüm-shüküdüm!

Swedish sounds nice I think, with its ´Germanic magic´ , the same for Icelandic and Norwegian. As to German, I like the sound of it, there are some words which are really funnily-sweetly pronounced. The only thing I don´t like that nowadays if I watch a German channel, it nearly sounds English to me, so many words penetrated the language (Denglisch! ).

Finnish is a relative of Hungarian, but to honest, I can´t understand a word... Lucky Nathan, Estonian speakers can understand quite much! Anyway, it does not sound really soft to me, rather a little bit funny. There are also some funny videos on the net with Nightwish songs and Hungarian subtitles where they substitute the Finnish words with Hungarian ones that sound similarly and so you get sentenses like: we need butter on us, don´t steal Taiwan bro, if it´s beaten flies away etc.

Japanese- extra funny!! I always laugh my head off on my Japanese lessons when listening comprehension comes, especially when women speak.

Oh, Arabic sounds cool, especially those throat-sounds. I have always wanted to learn it.

Spanish- I love all the accents, but I don´t like if somebody pronounces ´yo´as ´jo´ etc., for example like Shakira does, I prefer the castellano pronunciation of the ´ce´, ´ze´

Hi Heidrun
Glad you like Swedish, "throaty"..yes, maybe..
or like birds "language" ..lots of up and downs.

No, I'm sure they have vocals too in Finland,
but it sure sounds like that..to me.
But I like The Finnish people...don't get me wrong!

Don't know about German, it sounds to me "correct"..like an military march, but nice,

The whole Spanish, Guilon. Especially when Julio Iglesias sings. In English, the Texan accent is a little funny too.

True, there ARE many vocals in Finnish... Even double-ones are quite frequent, like "muuttoliikkeen" (a word I found somewhere). But still, it doesn't look "smooth"/"soft"... Somehow the language is fascinating me, because it's SO different, I cannot even guess what a suomi article is about, because I don't see any similarities to any other language.
However, it's about the most difficult language in Europe with its 15 cases, so I think I'll rather learn 2 other new languages than torture myself with Finnish.

Hey, pias, don't misunderstand me, I'm saying that I find Swedish comical because I do, but still, I think it is fascinating and I am really considering learning it some time soon.
