If philosophy thus in a sense comes before science, it also comes after and completes it. Science is rendered possible only by a division of labour. The physicist confines himself to the behaviour of material things as such: the biologist confines himself to the behaviour of organisms; the psychologist to the behaviour of organisms with consciousness or mind. None of these sciences attempts to put together the results of their various researches into a consistent view of the world.
