There is a lack of data on persistent organic pollutants levels in south part of Balcan countries especially in the theritory of Serbia which was the country of the former Yugoslavia. Novi Sad the second biggest city in Serbia was signed at the end of 1999 by UNEP as one of the four "hot spots". Since Oil Refinery in Novi Sad was one of the first industrial targets during three months of continuous bombing, numerous units were damaged or destroyed. Sampling from surface soils on 0.2m depth was performed. Gas chromatographic quantitative analyses pointed out that selected organic compounds are present on marked locations. In the examined soil samples residual concentrations of these pollutants has been detected. The multidisciplinary approach to make up good overview about soil pollution in "hot spot" area was applied.
