AirLines - Atmospheric Pollution

Lugha inayolengwa: Kiingereza

AirLines takes into consideration the atmospheric pollution produced, not only due to the magnitude of industrial processes, based on the incalculable and incessant activities of energy use but, first and foremost, concerning the production of this energy itself. AirLines aims to stimulate in its visitors a profound analysis of the mechanisms of production and use of energy, confronting them directly with the effects that such mechanisms are having on the atmosphere and on living beings. What Man emits into the atmosphere is also what Man breathes in every day; what goes up must come down, causing devastating effects upon the planet. So once again, we have to ask ourselves if we really need to drag behind us, together with the far-sighted progress, the responsibility for such indiscriminate addiction to consumption.

I will make a few comments on this text:
2nd line
"...processi industriali, basati sulle innumerevoli quanto inarrestabili attività ..." ( it is all plural. Did you translate all singular on purpose? I mean, would "processes" and "activities" sound weird?
"Prima ancora" (lit. even before, still first) has rather a "time" meaning (first we produce the energy, then the industry uses this
energy) but I really don't know mwhat I could suggest instead of "above all" ...first of all, maybe, but it's not exact.
Last sentence
"proprio" is not "own" here, it is an adverb meaning "really, exactly"
My suggestion (just for the meaning, of course)
So once again, we have to ask ourselves if we really need to drag behind us, together with the far-sighted progress, the responsibility for such indiscriminate addiction to consumption.

I see a couple of subtle but significant errors, but I cannot fix them at this moment. Please leave this target pending my return. Thanks!

You're welcome Xini, I enjoyed doing it I hope I didn't misunderstand too much, I got lots of help from Apple as it was my first try.

I had to make quite a few edits, including these:

unquantifiable (cannot be measured, maybe because too small) -> incalculable (too big to measure); facing -> confronting; have in tow (drag) -> convey (carry along, pass to future generations); effects ... causing to -> effects...having on (causes have effects, not vice versa); responsibility for -> consequences of.

Here responsibility is the literal translation and almost the correct meaning, except it has a sense of something optional, which I think sabotages the rest of the text.

Tantine, environmentalist texts like this require exquisite care. You did a very good job and if I had not read so much stuff like this I would have approved your translation as written.

Thaks for the precisions Una

This last phrase has caused quite an amount of discussion between Apple and myself

I am not sure however for the substitution of the word "responsibility" by the word "consequences" as the word "consequences" removes all responsibility from Man and makes him a simple victim instead of being the perpetrator of the damages which are created.

I agree with you that environmentalist texts need particular care as one just one word can change the whole meaning.

I hope my next try will be better.

Hugs
Tantine

I agree with you, Una, about the care needed for environmentalist texts, but this particular text, as a few others requested by Xini, is also a sort of presentation of his group artwork. So, the Italian here is rather a "creative" kind of language.
Ex:
In a normal text about an enviromental subject in Italian we wouldn't say "trascinarci dietro" but trasmettere (=convey): trascinarsi dietro is "to drag" "to lag"(and has nothing to do with future generations, as I see it, it's something that we trail behind us, not ahead of us).
"Responsabilità" is different from "consequences": the stress here should be on the individual responsibility.
