The more I think of it, the more I realize that “company†is only a void, abstract, unreal word, which presupposes in its turn a concept even more abstract and unreal. We are alone to confront life; we have always been so and will always be. Nobody else will be by our side at each crucial and decisive moment of our life; nobody. Be it because this would reveal an elevated degree of perfection of the human being (and the human being is not perfect by definition), be it because, in the end, the other people have to live their own lives. Do not rely on anybody else apart from yourself, do not expect anybody to come to save you or the situation. The artificers of our life are ourselves, and whatever help or external support that may arrive will only be a fruit of chance, an unforeseen and ephemeral coincidence, a thing in which it will be better not to trust the following occasion.
