Maräng
2 äggvitor
½ dl strösocker

Eventuell garnering
Jordgubbar eller andra bär
Myntablad

Ställ in i frysen.
Vispa äggvitorna till skum. Tillsätt sockret, lite i taget, och vispa till en styv maräng. Ta ut bakelserna ut ur frysen, och täck glassen med marängen. VIKTIGT! Glassen får inte synas igenom. Ställ tillbaka in i frysen till strax innanserveringen.
Ställ ugnen på 250grader. Gratinera glassbakelserna i ugnen i 3-5 minuter tills de har fått en vacker färg. Servera omgående!

Meringue
2 egg whites
1/5 cup (43 gram) granulated sugar

Possible decoration
Strawberries or other berries
Mint leaf

Instructions
Put the sponge cake slices in a big oven-safe serving dish or on oven-safe portion plates. Spread (optionally) 1 tablespoon of jam on the slices. Cut the ice cream into adequate size (not all of it will be needed) and put it on each slice of sponge cake. Put in the freezer. Whip the egg whites to foam. Add the sugar, a few spoonfuls at a time, beating the whole time, continue beating until they form peaks. Take the cakes out of the freezer, and cover the ice cream with the meringue. IMPORTANT! The ice cream must be covered with meringue. Put it back in the freezer until just before serving. Heat the oven to 482 degrees F. Brown 3 to 5 minutes until a beautiful colour appears. Serve immediately!

I've made a few edits here. The only one I wasn't sure of was what to do with the word "gratinate", which I've never heard of. I replaced it with "bake", but I'm not sure that's right. What do you actually do - put the frozen meringues in the oven? Don't they just melt?

Here's a page with a recipe for "Baked Alaska", which seems to the same thing. It uses the verb "brown" for what you do to the meringues in the oven. Maybe that's a better solution.

No kafetzou, the Ice cream will NOT melt, since it is covered with the meringue, it sort of isolate the ice cream from melting and it is a very good dish kafetzou (jami)
Gratinate is to heat something in the oven, to just give it colour, quick.. I think that the page you find is exactly the same..to brown.
gratinate is another word for bake in a gratin dish = in the oven
brown the onions is another word for the same thing, but you do not use the oven, maybe a frying pan instead.

But we don't use the word "gratinate". I've never seen/heard that in English. I'll change it to "brown".

What's "jami"?
