If philosophy thus in a sense comes before science, it also comes after and completes it. Science is rendered possible only by a division of labour. The physicist confines himself to the behaviour of material things as such: the biologist confines himself to the behaviour of organisms; the psychologist to the behaviour of organisms with consciousness or mind.
