Ticks belong to Acarina class, of which there are about 850 known species in the world, grouped in three families: Hard ticks, or Ixodidae, represent around 670 of known species; they have areas of thick chitinous integument. The Argasidae, approximately 180 species, have a an un-ossified integument which gave them the name of “soft ticksâ€. Only one Nuttalliellidæ has been identified, it belongs to a family intermediate to the two previous.
