Pe platoul celei mai Ã®nalte dintre stÃ¢ncile Meteore, cu altitudinea de 613 m, se aflÄƒ mÃ¢nÄƒstirea cea mai reprezentativÄƒ din tot ansamblul, cunoscutÄƒ sub numele de Marea Meteora, cu hramul Schimbarea la FaÅ£Äƒ. Fondatorul acestei mÃ¢nÄƒstiri a fost SfÃ¢ntul Atanasie Meteoritul, venit aici din Muntele Athos. El a Ã®ntemeiat pe aceasta stÃ¢ncÄƒ o micÄƒ sihÄƒstrie pe care o transformÄƒ in 1344 intr-o lavrÄƒ, vestitÄƒ pÃ¢nÄƒ in zilele noastre.

The founder of this monastery was Saint Anastasie of Meteora, who came here from the Athos mountain. He constructed, on this cliff, a small hermitage which was transformed by him in 1344, in a vast monastery, famous till present.
