The descendants of Aeneas ruled in the town of Alba Longa for a long time; one of them, Procas, had two sons, Numitor and Amulius. He left the leadership (the reign) to Numitor who was older (than his brother). But, Amulius expelled his brother and took the leadership for himself. He made the sister of his brother a virgin vestal (a priestess of the Goddess Vesta), Rhea Silvia was her name, hoping that this way he could deprive her of giving birth to descendants. But they say that two twins were born by Rhea Silvia, sons of the God Mars, Romulus and Remus; by the order of Amulius, both were put (placed) in a small trough (ancient tub or vat) and thrown into the river Tiberis.
