Don't need the comma after TO LIVE.
preciso = necessary
To live the best of Jesus is necessary fidelity and santity.

Their visions of happiness are different

YEs, Thais, I'm wondering about this comma as well, is it "To live the essence of Jesus is precise fidelity and sanctity", or "To live, the essence of Jesus is precise fidelity and sanctity"? as apple didn't mention it, but she added the meaning of the last sentence in a more synthetic way,"Faithfulness and holiness are necessary to live", which confirms the comma after "To live",so that I don't know what to think about. OK, it's just a coma, but I would like to know, as even a little coma (like a small diacritic can do in its way as well...) can change the meaning of a text...

It seems the last sentence is still a problem. Can we say "To live the essence of Jesus, it must be done with faithfulness and sanctity."?

No Samantha... The literal translation (that may be right) is in my first message up here...
O MELHOR means THE BEST

Para viver a essência de Jesus:
To live the essence of Jesus.

This means that the verb TO LIVE is directly conected to THE ESSENCE OF JESUS, otherwise it could be written in two different ways:
THe essence of Jesus is necessary fidelity and santity to live.
↑AND↓
To live the essence of Jesus is necessary fidelity and santity. ←←←←

When I enquired a portuguese speaker (Chinese native) about the meaning of the best of Jesus, She just did not know.

So I translated it wrongly.

I would like to accept thathavieira's!

The sentence maybe means:

Man wants prosperity, while woman dreams to live an eternal life. They are different visions on happiness. To live the best of Jesus is precise fidelity and sanctity.

In fact, after the discussion, I still don't know what's to live the best of Jesus, but it's clear to me that "preciso fidelidade e santidade" means strict (in stead of proper) compliance with Jesus-like fidelity and sanctity.

See this page:

It's Guitar Gospel, there are many viver o melhor de Deus/Jesus,

so I guess it's something special in Portguese Bible? What's the proper English equivalent in Bible?

I would tranlate like that:

Man wants prosperity, woman dreams about living the eternal love. It´s different visions of happyness. To live the best of Jesus it is necessary fidelity and sanctity.

- Maybe:"Men wishs prosperity, women dreams about..."

- Could be: "Faithfulness and holiness are necessary to live the best of Jesus."

- No need of the coma after 'To live', I think.

My meaning is to use the plural form: "women" "men".

Nice catch, Rodrigues!
And "These are different...of happines" would be better.
'They' looks like it referes to 'man' and 'woman'.

Preciso is not an adjective of fidelidade e santidade, as it seems having been traslated, but a verbal predicate.
é preciso = it is necessary

Could "é preciso" be translated by "one needs"? ("need" as a verb at 3rd person)then after it is easier to just keep "fidelity and sanctity" as they are displaid, wwithout being obliged to say "it is necessary to be faithful (or trusty) and "saint" (I didn't find any other word relative to "sanctity"?
Or maybe "fidelity and sanctity are necessary"?

if it were so, should there be a comma and an article in the orginal text, as :

Para viver o melhor de Jesus, é preciso la fidelidade e la santidade.

but appearantly, there were no such.

Yes, maybe this comma is missing in the original text, which can't be translated as if "to live" was subject of the second part of the sentence, because the original text is "Para viver o melhor", and not "viver o melhor". And as apple said "preciso" isn't an adjective of "fidelidade e sanctidade". Thathavieira, who is a native Brasilian-Portuguese speaker, gave the translation into English which seems to be the closer to the original text :
"To live the essence of Jesus is necessary fidelity and santity" But in English it has to be a little different it its form, so that telling it vice-versa might be something to be retained as a possible translation, knowing that to be correct, the plural has to be employed for the verb : "fidelity and sanctity are necessary".
Do not forget that we are translating it from Brasilian-Portuguese into English, and that in the translation work, one needs sometimes to display words in a different way to the original, because the meaning has to be respected, but also it has to be correctly displaid (expressed) in the target-language.
If you want to keep "it is necessary", then you'll have, for a correct English, to use relative propositions instead of a shorter solution (above) : "it is necessary to be faithful and ... and what? saint?.
So believe me, I'm not selling anything, it would be shorter to translate by "fidelity and sanctity are necessary" (it's a deal!)...

Thanks Francky... You're right.

one needs sometimes to display words in a different way to the original, because the meaning has to be respected, but also it has to be correctly displaid (expressed) in the target-language

As it isn't a Meaning Only translation it should be written by the correct grammar.
