om du kysste mina läppar,
Text
Submitted by killbarbie
Source language: Sweeds

om du kysste mina läppar, jag fick vara i din varma famn. och du viskar i mitt öra: jag älskar dig. då skulle jag vara den lyckligaste flickan på jorden. jag kan inte vara lycklig nu, vet du varför? jo, för du kysser en annan tjej. du har en annan tjej i din famn, och du viskar i tjejens öra: jag älskar dig.

Title
if you kissed my lips
Translation
Engels

Translated by lenab
Target language: Engels

If you kissed my lips, I could be in your warm embrace and if you whispered in my ear: I love you, then I'd be the happiest girl on earth. I can not be happy now. Do you know why? Well, you are kissing another girl. You have another girl in your arms and you whisper in that girl's ear: I love you.

Hi lenab,

This is very good, I'd just use "you would whisper in my ear" and "another" as a sole word.

What do you think?

I guess we won't even need a poll for I can see the meaning is perfectly correct (despite my still poor Swedish )

Yes, I guess you're right. I separated another to have som stress on the "other", but that might not be needed.
In Swedish the "viskar" is in present tense, but I Think I've learned that the past tense conditional should be matched with an imperfect. Do you think I should have "would" ?

Exactly! You've learned it right, now we have to use it correctly.
In a conditional sentence, you should use the combination: If + Simple past + Conditional.
That's why I asked you a conditional form for "whisper".

If you kissed my lips, I could be in your warm embrace and you would whisper in my ear: I love you. Then,

Do you agree?

Well, I'd say : If you kissed me, I could be in[...] and you wispered, then I would be.... What do you say?

I'm sorry lenab, I'd say that's wrong in English.
For using it that way you should have a second conditional sentence, but in Swedish you don't.

It should be:

If you kissed my lips, I could be in your warm embrace and if you whispered in my ear: I love you, then I'd be the happiest girl on earth.

See what I mean?
That would be the ideal construction, but it's a little different from the original.

Don't you think there are three things going with thw "if" here? If they all three are fullfilled, she would be the happiest girl...That's how I interpret it. Is it wrong, do you think?
