bir beyaz mendil koydun gittin
dönerim dedin söz verdin yaa
kar yagdi beyaz, yurudum durdum
usudum biraz
daglara sordum
yine geldi yaz
bekledim durdumeh dön gel artik yar e allahin icin
yaniyor yuregim yaniyor cigerim sevdan vuruyor yakiyor sevidigim
yaniyor yuregim yaniyor cigerim sensiz olmuyor
olmuyor be güzelim
bir sabah yeli vurdu yuzume
dokundun sandim uyandim yar
icim urperdi
aradim durdum
sanki uzakta sesini duydum
beyaz mendilin
kokladim
dön gel artik yar e allahin icin
Remarks about the translation
This is a song from Ibrahim Tatlises. I have been listening to his music without knowing what he is saying... but I just love it. It can be either translated in Canadian French (preferred) or in Canadian English. Thank you in advance. Regards, Renée Gagnon

Title
A white handkerchief, you put it down and left
Translation
Engels

Translated by kafetzou
Target language: Engels

A white handkerchief, you put it down and left
I'll be back, you said, you promised, sweetheart
It snowed white, I kept on walking
I got a little cold, I asked the mountains
Summer came again, I kept on waiting
Hey come back, come already, for your God ...
My heart is burning
My liver is burning
Your love remains
It burns, beloved
My heart is burning
My soul is burning
I can't make it without you
I can't make it, my pretty one
A morning wind hit me in the face
It was like I had been touched, I woke up, sweetheart
My soul trembled, I kept on searching
It was as if I had heard your voice from afar
I kept on smelling your white handkerchief
Come back, come already sweetheart, for God's sake
Remarks about the translation
Note: In Turkish, the liver is like the heart or soul in songs and poetry (and terms of endearment).

I translated these words, which I think are more correct:

Bir beyaz mendil, koydun gittin,
Dönerim dedin, söz verdin yar...
Kar yağdı beyaz, yürüdüm durdum
Üşüdüm biraz dağlara sordum,
Yine geldi yaz, bekledim durdum
E dön gel artık Allah'ın için...
Yanıyor yüreğim
Yanıyor ciğerim
Sevdan duruyor
Yakıyor sevdiğim
Yanıyor yüreğim
Yanıyor ciğerim
Sensiz olmuyor
Olmuyor be güzelim
Bir sabah yeli vurdu yüzüme
Dokundum sandım, uyandım yar
İçim ürperdi, aradım durdum
Sanki uzakta sesini duydum
Beyaz mendilini kokladım durdum
Dön gel artık yar, Allah'ın için

I can only compare the text with the French translation and I noticed a few differences:

5th line: you have waited and stopped whereas the French has not stopped to wait (I think)
8th line: your liver is burning; in French it is I who is burning, my dear; also 'the fact that I loved' is missing or different in the French version
line 15: a morning wind, or one morning, the wind...?
line 17: again, did 'I' stop or not?

If all this is because of differences in the original you took, all good...
Otherwise, of course I don't know whether the mistakes are in the French or the English version so sorry to bother you if it is the French one which should be corrected.

Hi

* A white handkerchief, you put it down and left-->You put a white handkerchief down and left

* I'll be back, you said, you promised, sweetheart-->"sweetheart isn't used there. "yaa" means "oh!/ah!"

* Summer came again, I waited and stopped-->Summer came again, I kept on waiting

* Hey come back, come already, for your God...-->Hey come back right now, my love, for God's sake

* My liver is burning--> here "ciÄŸerim" is figurative, so "my soul is burning" would be better

* Your love has stopped, it burns the fact that I loved--> according to "sevdan vuruyor yakiyor sevidigim", it says "your love hits and burns me, sweetheart". according to "Sevdan duruyor, Yakıyor sevdiğim", it says "your love is still here, it is burning me sweetheart".

* It was like I had been touched, I woke up, sweetheart--> I thought you touched me, so I woke up, sweetheart

* My soul trembled, I searched and stopped--> My soul trembled, I kept on looking for (you)

-------------

Kafetzou, "bir şeyi yapıp durmak" demek yapılan işe devam etmek demek

--resme bakıp durdum=I kept on looking at the picture.

-- resme baktım ve durdum=I looked at the picture and then stopped. etc.

handyy, thanks so much for your help. Please note that I was translating a slightly different version of the words (see my comment below my translation) - I believe the version that I found is correct - what do you think?

Oh wow - I didn't know "bir şeyi yapıp durmak" - thanks a lot! I will edit accordingly.

Hi Kafetzou,

This translation was validated because it got plenty and only positive votes.
Don't ask me why our users didn't find any of those mistakes...

I've brought it back to be evaluated.

I googled it, and yes Kafetzou, your version is the correct one.

and in my humble opinion, except some wrong parts (made because of misunderstanding), your translation was correct, so this should be validated.
