Θάλασσα βαθιά...
Text
Submitted by redmoon

Title
Koyu deniz
Translation
Turkish

Translated by ankarahastanesi

idenisenko, could you please tell us what's wrong according the English translation here:
-------
Deep sea - in your eyes I caress, waves of kisses,
I travel in your body, bitter sea separates us and I'm in pain and I spend another Sunday thinking of you, I look for you
Come and get me, my light, become just once mine
in the neighbourhoods of the world I'll find you again
Come and apologize to me for not feeling yet, how many nights I spend alone and how much I love you.
It's turned to night early, the stars of this Earth have been turned on, please tell me, how you can endure in someone else's arms
It's turned to night again and God has started to rain,
my sweet eyes, my heart cannot stand not having you
----------
Kafetzou, idenisonko thinks this translation is wrong, but it's correct, according to the English one. Could you please tell me what you think about it?

I would never try to translate a translation.
I liked very much the greek version.
Impossible to point out what's wrong, what's inacurate...
The only way to understand what I mean, is to let me translate it (in turkish) and compare with the work already done.

Come and apologize to me for not feeling yet, how many nights I spend alone and how much I love you
--------------------------------------------------
the turkish translation made, is identical to the english one
--------------------------------------------------
I liked for all my life to listen to Greek, Armenian and Jewish people speaking turkish their way, I adore their 'expression trop maniérée'
but,
the usage of a non-native language may differ substantially and phonetically from the native one.
]]Gel ve af dile benden hissetmediğin için hala, kaç geceyi yalnız geçirdiğimi ve seni ne kadar sevdiğimi.]]
...a turk reading this sentence will understand it, wondering how Tarzan has learnt his language.
Have you got my point, am I clear enough ?

smy, idenisenko's translation sample is elegant. I think you should reject ankarahastanesi's translation with a good rating and let idenisenko translate it his way.

Unfortunately the last generation in Turkey grew up watching TV; mostly bad/wrong translated american movies degenerated somehow
their mind and language.
An example : whisky on the rocks - whiskey with ice, was translated as : having whisky on the rocks :-)

Old traditions are lost, you have to look for a good Turkish Coffee.
Even Orhan Pamuk's turkish, who won the Nobel Litterature Premium, is not perfect.
To play 'le maniaque de la perfection' has to be a duty for a translator.

Oops - I just noticed that this translation is "meaning only" - that means it would be wrong to reject ankarahastanesi's translation. I'm sorry, idenisenko, but this time I think we're just going to have to let it go.

Well, thank you for your information.
I give up.
These high-school level 'médiocre' translations
wouldn't let me sleep the night.
Better is to go to collect flowers in the nature.
Goodbye and good luck in your lives.

I still think this translation is very good and it sounds so beautiful to me, especially the part you mention idenisenko but as Kafetzou says, it's a "meaning only" request so I can't reject it. But please don't live here just because of that.

smy, I think you mean "don't leave", not "don't live", right?
