| WitchyКількість повідомлень:

| WitchyКількість повідомлень: 477 | An English speaker can tell me what does "girl guides" mean in this context?
I do not think this means "girls scout", does it?
Thanks for your help. |

Magari intende "prostitute"... |

| WitchyКількість повідомлень:

| GianniКількість повідомлень: 6 | In my translation I used what I believe is the literal translation in british english. In understand the slang meaning is more american, is this correct?
Knowing who's the author could help us decide.
Also I spotted a typo ("raggazze" instead of "ragazze" how do I correct it, or can someone else do this?

| | The slang meaning is only in sentences like the following: "I'm no girl scout, you know," meaning that I'm not naïve - I know what I'm doing (in bed).
So it's not a prostitute - it's the opposite! |

| WitchyКількість повідомлень: 477 | Kafetzou > I agree for the meaning.
But, in this context, according to me, it doesn't have sense.
The sentence is about "an ugly world". For me "girl-guides" has another meaning.
I have searched on the Internet and found this: http://www.songmeanings.net/lyric.php?lid=3530822107858628028
Someone says "girl-guides" could be another way to say "prostitute". What do you think about that Kafetzou?
I was answering your first post Kafetzou, not the second one. |

| appleКількість повідомлень:

| | Thanks for the link, Witchy, but I don't think that person has a clue - she even thinks the song is sung from a man's point of view, but to me it seems crystal clear that it's a young woman.
I admit the verse doesn't make a lot of sense - maybe it refers to something that was in the news at the time when the lyrics were written. Who knows?
But it says "girl-guides", so you guys should translate it as "girl-guides", and not try to interpret it. Here's a link that explains what girl guides are:
