| | From 1950s to 1970s the concept on positive effect of inflation to capital accumulation and growth is placed to order of economy. The ideas related to positive effect of inflation on growth is founded on the idea about making the inflation increase the forced savings. According to Mundell - Tobin effect, motivation of saving money and capital accumulation oriented portfolio movements are elternatives to each other. In these models is stated that there is a positive correlation between inflation and growth.
Böyle daha iyi olur diye düşündüm. |

| | Turkcesine bir daha baktim, benim yazdigim 1950-1970 acisindan iyi olmami$. Sizinki daha iyi bu acidan. Yalniz "... is placed to order of economy" anla$ilmiyor. "order of economy" diye bir deyim buraya uymuyor.
The ideas derseniz cumlede is degil are olmasi gerekir. Bir de "goru$" u "idea" yerine "view" olarak cevirmek daha iyi geliyor kulagima...
" making the inflation increase the forced savings" yanli$.
"In these models is stated that ..." yanli$, burada "it" olmasi gerekir: "In these models IT is stated that there is a positive correlation between inflation and growth."
Saniyorum "it is stated" ba$a soylense daha iyi olur:
"It is stated that in these models there is a positive correlation between inflation and growth."

| | Emotions can be expressed with words as well
For example:
When events unfold with calm and ease
When the winds that blow are merely breeze
Learn from nature, from birds and bees
Live your life in love, and let joy not cease.
OK

| | Hi everybody
Ahmet, I really want to congratulate you; your translation is absolutely great!
..but, I agree with Merdogan and tarantula9812739; it should start as "(Throughout) from the 1950s and until the 1970s". ...and you can use "compulsory" instead of "mandatory". just an idea.
The rest is just perfect. |
| | 2009年 8月 7日 21:25 |
| | Throughout the 1950s and through the 1970s, the view that the "effects of inflation on capital accumulation and growth is positive" was on the agenda of the economics. (the economy.. now it's as if econimics is a countable noun, which it isn't or economists? but I don't think they're talking about people..?) The view that inflation has a positive effect on growth is based on the view that inflation forces mandatory savings. According to the Mundell-Tobin effect, the instinct to save money and portfolio movements directed towards capital accumulation are alternatives to each other. In these models, it is stated that there is a positive relation between inflation and growth. |

| | I like this:
"From the 1950's to 1970's ..." I think "the" is not needed before "1970's". In fact, "the" before the 1950's can also be dropped.
What I wrote earlier and the rest look all convoluted a bit.
Yes, "in the agenda" should have been "on the agenda".

| | Ok, but there should be 'the' in front of both 1950s and 1970s since they are used as a noun here (I asked Lilian to make sure that I wasn't wrong). After these two are corrected the translation is ok
What about 'the view' instead of 'views' ? I think it's a sort of general thing rather than something thought by a few people..? |
| | 2009年 8月 8日 22:14 |
| | "the 1950's" vs "1950's" Well, search on internet and you'll see a lot of "the"s being dropped from similar structures... It is not a matter of "using it as a noun", but rather if it really needs to have the definite article. Depending on the context, a noun can be used without a "the", but the meaning changes:
- I like the woman.
- I like woman.
Vews vs. view: Yes, as I expressed --you may have missed my comment since it was in Turkish--right from the get-go I prefer the singular.

| | I like woman is wrong.
I like the woman is a definite woman, I like women should be in the plural or else it's not correct.
kafetzou.. can u help us out here pls..? I don't think Ahmet wants to be corrected by a non native speaker.. thanks so much.. CC: kafetzou |

| | Corrections:
Throughout the 1950s and through 1970s --> From the 1950s to the 1970s
the "effects of inflation ... is positive" --> the effect of inflation ... is positive [no quotation marks, and "effect" should be singular]
the agenda of the economics --> the economic agenda
relation --> relationship
Note: Otherwise it looks very good at this point. |

| | OK. Yes, it is better with a "the", but it can be dropped.
I thought about it a bit. You are right "I like woman" should be "I like women". "Woman" is not a mass noun like "meat", "coffee", etc.
When I rolled these phrases off my tongue a few times this morning, I figured out the correct/better ones...

Chantal is correct - you canNOT drop the "the" before the name of a decade (the 1970s). BTW, why do you have a female avatar? |
| | 2009年 8月 10日 07:51 |
| | The or not the... Check it elsewhere, I said enough on the issue.
Female avatar: It is not because I am into cross-dressing I could not figure out how to change it...

| | Ah - I have no idea how to change the avatar either. You must have checked "female" when you initially registered with the site.
As to whether you need a "the" before the name of the decade, it would behoove you well to defer to those who are experts in this language. |
