The Apple
There was an apple hanging from the tree.
It was not the only apple,
but it was hanging on its own. Out on the branch.
It was red.
Neither redder nor bigger than the others,
but it was hanging all by itself. Out there on the branch.
What was it thinking about?
If apples can think at all.
Of the wind and weather?
No, maybe it was thinking at
when one would pick it.
Yes, it was probably so.
If one had a closer look, it was tired.
Very tired, of hanging there alone.
Of course, who wants to hang alone?
Why, no normal human being would like to do that,
so why should apples want that?
Yes, it's true. It simply sat there
and waited for permission to come down.
I think, I will go and pick it.
