CisaNumber of messages: 765 | Hi, it´s pronounced like see-saah (like it would be pronounced in Spanish). |

| Wow Tantine, so we haven't got the same way to rate a translation, when a translation is correct from a short text I give a 7 rating, when it is pretty good I give an 8 rating, when it's very good I give a 9 rating, and when it is perfect "de chez" perfect, then I give a 10...
For longer texts my rating uses to be a little higher with the same criteria.
At the beginning of my expert job, I didn't give any rating, then I based myself on what I read from Chantal, who was more ancient than I on the site, and because I think it is a fair way to rate translations. I think that if you give a 10 very easily, translators' skills would be overestimated.
I had a message today from turkishmiss, and she was wondering why her average rating was getting lower (3,5!) although she got many translations validated with 7-8 rating, and I never gave her any low rating...
I must say that I don't understand what happened. I'll ask JP about this point, because it seems there is a problem somehere... |

| I agree with Francky on the rating scale. I only give a 10 for a translation that is perfect and requires no edits. As soon as I have to start editing (and I think you're right, Cisa, that we English experts have the most translations to validate), the rating goes down. If I understand the meaning, but it would take me more than five minutes to edit it, I usually reject it. |

| Francky wrote "turkishmiss [...] was wondering why her average rating was getting lower (3,5!)". On her profile I see the low rating is for translations into Turkish, of which she has few (hence the word Turkish is so small) and it seems a lot of them were rejected. I think the problem is not her Turkish but rather her knowledge of those source languages: Portuguese, Spanish, Italian... Translators need a very large vocabulary and control of grammar...in each language.
I learned this the hard way. Spanish is my best foreign language, the one I use most often, but my Cucumis rating for Spanish is my lowest. That is because I try sometimes to translate into Spanish, not just from Spanish into my primary language (English).

| Actually, the problem IS her knowledge of Turkish. She's not a native speaker. I've had many conversations with her about how to express things in Turkish. Her Turkish is definitely lower level than mine, and I'm not a native speaker either. I'm sure she would confirm that. |

| Yes, sure, she would, no doubt about it. But what she told me is that she didn't understand, as she did only short translations, which were validated . I had a look and found out she had 14 validated translations, 4 waiting to be evaluated, and 2 rejected.
