There are lots of mistakes here! First of all: he translated "We people who are darker than blue" as "We ARE people who are darker than blue". there's a slight difference here.

"A boyish grown up shiftless jigger" became in italiano "A boy was growing like a sleezy self destroying person"

I don't think you got the gist of this text.

Firstly it is in the "song" category, which explains the "poetic licence" taken with the word order (which is quite acceptable, even if it is not for a song or a poem it is just a little rarer than the form you suggest).

Translating poetry, songs, free prose is extremely difficult and the same poetic licence used in the original is also admitted in the target language.

In case it helps anyone make up their mind, I have translated it into French.
