altid mere end sikker i din sag

The school’s highest mark

Not long ago I saw you walking through the town.
I thought there goes the princess of my childhood, quite a mirage!
I remember you as it was forever, an unattainable girl dressed in white.
And when you left the class it was with the highest mark of the school.

Maybe there is a coherence
like between criminals and avengers
- the highest mark attracts
the lowest common denominator.

You took your chances and the obstacles were shut down.
You swept past the others in the row, no one could follow you.
Not that you really wanted to smash somebody on your way
but it was as though the cards were dealt out and you got the best hand.

Maybe there is a coherence
like between criminals and avengers
- the highest mark attracts
the lowest common denominator.

Always on the winning side,
always more than confident.
I was wondering if you could possibly know
that you were heading directly for the perfect, the ultimate,
the greatly divine defeat?

At one time you forgot to close the door and an accidental doubt invaded your mind
and settled like an inescapable shadow in your otherwise so sunny disposition.
Because darkness is something that comes with no warning and one day it is suddenly all over.
Even the most beautiful flower risks ending as the pop melody of the year.

Hi Minny, great job!

I've made a few minor edits and set a poll, OK?

Hi Lilian Canale,
I am glad that you like this translation.
You have edited "were" into "was" two times. I have deliberately thosen "were", because in both cases I think we are talking about non-facts, if you see what I mean by that. (I cannot remember the word for the grammatical term).
Regarding "I remember you as it was/were" I do not feel sure at all.
Regarding "But it were/was as though" I go for "were"
Anyway, let us see how the poll will react. ;-)
