Einige Zeilen oder Wendungen der von Mendelssohn...
Text

Several lines or phrases of Mendelssohn . . .

Several lines or inflections of the chorale-like pieces composed by Mendelssohn show great similarity to traditional chorales and, as such, underscore the label as chorale-like. The examples of the previous chapter have indeed shown that, at least for him, the echoes are not the primary characteristic to be evaluated. Because of this, Wolfgang Dinglinger can only be partially agreed with when he writes,
"It is indicative that Mendelssohn's own choral adaptions often display to some extent a common denominator of known choral melodies and inflections. With these, they represent the general and have a high recognizability even though, or exactly because, they are not specialized Chorales but rather their substrate.
Remarks about the translation
this is my first time translating something that has to do with music. It would be great to have an English-speaking music buff go over it to make sure the interpretation makes sense.

hi classico_mechanic

Would 'the norm' or something else be an alternative for 'the general'? I don't think 'general' is commonly used as a noun in this context.

well, it struck me as funny too. I couldn't figure out what point the author was trying to make about the music 'representing the general.' That's really the only translation for 'Allgemein' though.
