| | Hi Tzicu,
What do you mean by: "Just that you should know if it is a big thing"? |

| | Hello Lilly,
In Romanian it is odd, too. I translated it accordingly . Maybe instead of 'just' I could use 'only', but still, nothing much would changed, would it not?

| | "Numai să ştii dacă e mare lucru" should be translated by "Only to know if it is a big deal" not by "a big thing". |

| | I'm sorry but I do not agree with "Only to know if it is a big...".... And,
to me 'big thing' and 'big deal' render the same message, especially in this informal source text. I have heard many English native speakers using 'big thing' |

| | Tzicu, you still haven't explained what the line means... could you say that in different words so that I could figure out what the exact form would be? |
| | 11 March 2009 23:31 |
| | Lilian, the person who writes those words says to the other person to call. To find out if a situation or something that happen is or isn't of great importance.
Tzicu-Sem, I'm pretty sure it is correct how I have formulated. Using "big thing" there is exactly as the subject is a big object. This is how I see it.
Lilian, am I mistaken? Is it not used in English the expression "big deal" when you suggest that something that happened is not so important or is unimpressive? |

| | Could that part be: "just to tell me whether it's a big deal (or not)"? CC: iepurica |
| | 11 March 2009 23:08 |
| | Yes, indeed. That's the meaning. Thank you. |
| | 11 March 2009 23:09 |
| | Let me try:
Someone is asking a person to call tomorrow just that this person should know that (something) is or is not of some importance.
'Bit thing' should not be taken here literraly.
i.e. It's not a big thing to run a company.
It has the same value as 'big deal'. I do not say that 'big deal' is bad, is rather good; but 'big thing' is alright, too.

| | Tzicu, if you agree...would you like to edit so that we can set a poll? |
| | 11 March 2009 23:13 |
| | ... the person who is supposed to call 'tomorrow' should know if (something) is important (or not). |
| | 12 March 2009 00:29 |
| | Tzicu, if you insist in using know the line should read:
"just if you come to know whether it's a big deal (or not)"
About the choice of words, although both fit, I agree with iepurica that 'big deal' sounds better than 'big thing'

| | Thank you very much for the help Lilian, appreciate it. |

| | Just to find out if it's any big deal. |

| | "Numai sa stii daca e mare lucru" is better translated as "Just to know if it's a big deal" |
