Csárdaszállás is located in Hungary, in Békés Country in the southern part of the Carpathian Basin. Basically, its climate is continental, but like all over Europe, one can observe several climate elements. The oceanic and Mediterranean climatic effects influence the evolving weather. As a continental weather characteristic extreme conditions can emerge. The summer is very hot, while winters can be very cold. The annual average temperature is pleasant, but the maximum temperature in summer can reach 40oC, while the temperature in winter can reach -30 oC. The annual average precipitation is about 450-550 mm, the average number of sunny hours reaches 2000-2100 hours/year, that gives an excellent opportunity for plant breeding, especially for seed production.
For this climatic characterization, we took the records from 1961 to 1990 as data. (according to the Hungarian Meteorological Service)
