Ce poţi face dacă eşti într-o relaţie şi ai încercat să faci totul ca să fie bine, dar nu se poate? Treci mai departe. Dacă oferi şi nu ţi se oferă, încearcă în altă parte, poate nu ofereai cui trebuia! Viaţa este atât de scurtă şi fericirea aşa de greu de găsit.

Translated by Ionut Andrei
Target language: Engels

What can you do if you are in a relationship and you have tried everything to make things work, but it is not possible? You move on. If you give but don't receive, try somewhere else, maybe you weren't giving to the right one! Life is so short and happiness is so hard to find.

Salutări,

Foarte bună traducere. Dar mă gândeam la cuvântul "receive" folosit de tine, Ionut Andrei. După mine, acea parte ar fi fost mai exactă dacă se traducea de genul: "If you give but you are not given..." To receive are alte implicaţii decât "to give." (Ceva de genul: dacă oferi şi nu primeşti...).

Tzicu-Sem, Could you explain in English why you think 'be given' is better than 'receive' here?

Ionut Andrei, do you agree?

Hello Lein,
Sorry for writing in Romanian.
Now, I was suggesting that the translation of "Dacă oferi şi nu ţi se oferă" should be "If you give but you are not given", because how Ionuţ Andrei chose to translate it changes the implications slightly. Its not that a person doesnt recieve what s/he is given, but the person is not given something to receive at all, so the meaning changes a bit. If we were to translate back from English into Romanian, the sentence/meanaing would be different.

I hope I made myself understood. Lets see what Ionuţ has to say.

Hmm.. I can see what you are saying but I don't see the difference in implication. The translation as it is (using 'receive') doesn't imply receiving 'back' what you have given. That would be the case if the translation read 'if you give what you are not receiving' or something similar.
