They used to make us happy and scared -> They used to make us to love them and to scare them.

"gardens" is missing in the end, before the dots.

Yes. I misread that line (sevdirmek - sevindirmek): They used to get us to love and make us scared

Actually, that line sounds weird in English.

Do you mean: "They used to frighten us and (also) make us love them."?

There should be no object after love: They used to frighten us and (also) enable us to love
