Istanbul'da doğan Sermed, babasindan sülüs ve nesih hatlarini mesketti. Râsim'den icâzet aldi. Sidki'den matematik öğrendi. Bostanci Ocaği'nda müderris olarak ders verdi ve hat öğrett. 1191'de Selânik Mollasi oldu.
Sermed, born in Istanbul, took lessons from his father in the Thuluth and Naskh calligraphic scripts. He received a certificate from Rasim. He studied mathematics with Sidki. He lectured at the Bostancı Centre as a professor and taught calligraphic scripts. He became the mullah of Salonica in 1191.
