Down by the river by the boats Where everybody goes to be alone Where you won’t see any rising sun Down to the river we will run
When by the water we drink to the dregs Look at the stones on the riverbed I can tell from your eyes You've never been by the Riverside
Down by the water the riverbed Somebody calls you somebody says swim with the current and float away Down by the river everyday
Oh my God I see how everything is torn in the river deep And I don't know why I go the way Down by the Riverside
When that old river runs past your eyes To wash off the dirt on the Riverside Go to the water so very near The river will be your eyes and ears
I walk to the borders on my own To fall in the water just like a stone Chilled to the marrow in them bones Why do I go here all alone
Down by the Riverside | | You can listen to the song over there: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dd-wAkXh_GY
But... the translations have to: 1) Convey the same emotions as the original 2) Rhyme as much as possible 3) Have the same amount of syllable as possible
In other words, the text's integrity is not paramount here; it's more about writing something that could be sing over the real song without sounding weird.

最新記事 | | | | | 2011年 12月 21日 18:07 | | | Hi Redshadow,
I suggest a "high quality" request if you really want this text to be translated using rhyme, metric, etc. | | | 2011年 12月 22日 21:09 | | | | | | 2011年 12月 22日 23:45 | | | Yeah, I know it looks weird, but all the versions of the lyrics show 'them'.
Perhaps Laura could help or explain... CC: kafetzou | | | 2011年 12月 22日 23:49 | | | "them bones" is slang for "those bones of mine". There's a famous song that goes, "Dem bones dem bones gonna walk around" etc.
However, I think there is another section with errors, which I've bolded below:
"Oh my God I see how everything is torn in the river deep
And I don't know why I go the way
Down by the Riverside
When that old river runs pass your eyes
| | | 2011年 12月 22日 23:59 | | | Actually, I listened to the song, and I really don't hear "boats" at all, but all of the sources seem to agree on this, and on the rest of it, except that "pass" should be "past", as I thought.
She is not a native speaker of English (she's Danish), so maybe that's why. | | | 2011年 12月 23日 10:18 | | | Thank you, Laura.
I've edited "pass ---> past" | | | 2011年 12月 23日 12:09 | | | Hello,
Yes I thought that "them bones" was like an idiom of some kind.
Like some kinda Texan speaking weird american english . I was wondering if it were some slang too.
And yes now that you mention it, pass->past is way better.
Thank you all.

How do I request a "high quality" translation?
Is there a button somewhere that I'm not aware of ? | | | 2011年 12月 23日 14:27 | | | Click on the Spanish flag of the "requested translations" at the top of this page, then on "Edit" and at the bottom of the page you'll see a box "High quality required". Check the box and send. | | | 2011年 12月 23日 14:48 | | | Hey lilian canale,
I must be blind or something. I click on the spanish flag, that takes me to the "English-Spanish - Agnes Obel / Riverside" page.
However there is not any "Edit" stuff at the bottom.
(I even searched the page source code, and there is nothing)
Edit: okay I found someting "Request a new target language" then I check "High quality required" and select "All the languages of your last submitted translation", and finally click the bottom arrow.
But nothing seems to happen. Someting is written on top of the new page that says:
"New language - Agnes Obel / Riverside
Problem - Target language"
Well, .... | | | 2011年 12月 23日 14:53 | | | Yeah, it's probably because this "high quality" option is only available when submitting the request for the first time, and not from the "Request another target language from this text". I'll try another way : I'll remove the request into Spanish then submit it myself.
Let's see... | | | 2011年 12月 23日 14:56 | | | It works! maybe didn't you see the box that was to be checked, it was just under the text (bottom left)
| | | 2011年 12月 23日 15:38 | | | Well thank you then.
To be honest, it's not a very, you know, "user friendly" interface | | | 2011年 12月 24日 00:03 | | | |
