Each part of the article shows Justin in a different cultural role. First, there is Justin – as a philosopher. He has grown up with ancient Greek philosophy; he was looking for the truth in many philosophical systems, but he did not find any satisfaction in these. In the end Christianity gave him the answer to his questions and he recognized Christianity as the one and only, most excellent philosophical system of all. |

I am not sure about the meaning in your first sentence:
Each part of the article shows us Justin in many functions in culture.
So, part one shows us him in three different functions, part two shows him in five different functions etc. Is that what you mean? Or should this be:
The several parts of the article show us Justin in many different cultural functions.
Below, I made a few small edits to the rest of your text. Please let me know if you agree!

Sorry for the late reply, but I had no possibility to login before.
The several parts of the article show us Justin in many different cultural functions. That is the meaning.
But it was written in a bit different way. Maybe the following sentences convey the Polish source better:
"Each part of the article shows us different cultural function of Justin".
or
"Each part of the article presents us Justin with his different cultural role". (?) I'm not sure about this "function"...
Each part = different role in culture:
1st part - Justin as a philosopher
2nd part - Justin as a theologian
3rd part - Justin as the apologist, etc.
What do you think, dear Lein? | | | 2012年 2月 8日 14:31 | | | Thanks Aneta!
I have edited and taken the liberty to remove 'us'. In English, in this case I think it is better to leave it out so that the sentence will have a better flow.
I have set a poll, but do let me know if you (either of you ) don't agree with my edits | | | 2012年 2月 8日 14:37 | | | Excellent! |
