this sounds likeb a little bit strange Swedish and according to your bridge.. proposal is:
"Detta fotografi nockar mig, min vän! Vilka modiga killar..." |
| | 3 March 2008 21:06 |
| | Yes Pia, it sounds weird to me too.
I wasn't really sure on how to express that. There's neither a similar expression in Swedish nor in English.
But you understood what I meant by the bridge, didn't you?
The meaning is one of making someone be astonished by an image.
You can edit whatever you want, I'll certainly agree. |

| piasNumber of messages: 8114 | Sure..your bridge was good, I got it!
I guess we don't need to set it to the poll, but to be sure.. just a quick voting. |
| | 3 March 2008 21:43 |
| | Just a suggestion!
This picture captivates/captures me. |
| | 3 March 2008 22:03 |
| piasNumber of messages: 8114 | Lilly, do you agree with pirulito?
In that case we could change it to "fängslar" or "fångar". |
| | 3 March 2008 22:32 |
| | Actually I think I'd rather use: "shocks", "astonishes" than "captivates"
förvånade or häpna would be good, I think.
What about:
jag är häpna av detta fotografi! ...?
|
| | 3 March 2008 22:39 |
| piasNumber of messages: 8114 | Ok, so you can edit if you like to.
"förvånade" is past tense, "förvånar" is present. |
| | 3 March 2008 22:44 |
| piasNumber of messages: 8114 | Yes...sure, you can say:
"Jag häpnade över detta fotografi.." (past)
"Jag är häpen över detta fotografi.." (present) |

| piasNumber of messages: 8114 | Hi Lilly.
Sorry if I nag at you... but I can see that the votes are against you. When looking at your bridge its maybe better to turn the words around a bit and write: "Detta fotografi gör mig häpen, min vän". Or your other suggest: "Detta fotografi förvånar mig, min vän". At the same time I think that "knocks me down" seems to be a much stronger word than "förvånar or "häpen" ... hm, but you are the one who know the meaning of the source.
What do you think of this?
|

| | Pia:
I don't think "the votes" are against me. I think we are talking about a single vote which I understand as nit picking.
It's not an easy phase to translate. That's why all this discussion is about, but as I said the sense is of "astonished" so I stand on this last version, turning the words around if you wish.
I'm trying to improve my Swedish, but my English and Spanish are good enough to understand the source text and to provide an accurate bridge.
It's up to you, min vän! |
| | 4 March 2008 15:41 |
| piasNumber of messages: 8114 | Yes, we talking about one single vote..right, but a "heavy one". I know that your English is good and if the Swedish one should be done according to that, I prefer to turn the words around, but still keep your choice of "häpen".
I'll do that.

| piasNumber of messages: 8114 | Ok.. you were faster here, already done! |
| | 4 March 2008 15:48 |
| | |
| | 4 March 2008 16:51 |
| | "Detta fotografi nockar mig" I voted against it! Sorry
Detta foto gör mig häpen
Jag är häpen över detta foto (present) |

| | Hi pirulito
I understand that you voted before the editing.
Do you agree now with the final version?
|
| | 4 March 2008 17:18 |
| | Förstås! |
| | 4 March 2008 17:26 |
| piasNumber of messages: 8114 | Aha...so I guess that your translation is ok. now Lilly. NO vote against. |
